The Annual Sports Day is held at Kirumba Stadium in November and always has a great atmosphere. Pupils compete in both track and field events during the day and the PTA get involved in providing refreshments.
This event is held in January / February and Secondary students compete in 4km or 5km events depending on their age. This has been held as a whole school event with Junior and Early Years pupils also taking part in shorter races.
Isamilo’s Swim Squad is going from strength to strength, taking full
advantage of our 25m swimming pool. Last year the senior squad took part in
3 national galas in Dar es Salaam, bringing home a hoard of medals, personal
best times and even National Records! The squad train three times each week
and this is increased in the run-up to competitions.
In November we will be hosting the Isamilo Open Swimming Championships, the
first event of its kind here in Mwanza. The event will be attended by the top
swimming clubs in Dar and other school teams. For more information about this
event please contact abelton@isamiloschool.org.
There is also an annual inter-house swimming competition which encourages swimmers
of all abilities to take part, with everything from kicking races, to relays,
to the more challenging individual medley event.
This event held at the school pool in April is always a really exciting one. Students always put in excellent performances and this is a great spectator event!
The other inter-house sports competitions are spread throughout the school year and include: cricket, rounders, basketball, football and netball.
The extra curricular sports clubs are run mainly after-school, but some activities take place during lunch times. These clubs are run by a large number of different staff and allow pupils to pursue their sporting interests further.
Currently sporting clubs include: football, netball, badminton, swimming, tennis, table tennis, running, cricket, touch rugby and basketball.
There are a number of opportunities for students to represent Isamilo School in matches with other local schools. Mainly playing football, netball, basketball and table tennis.
Isamilo School organised a U16 football league in Jan / Feb 2009. Six teams were involved and matches took place at Kirumba Stadium. We hope to build on the success of this league and run a similar event again next year.
Isamilo School sent a U16 cricket team to Dar es Salaam to play in the TCA T20 Tournament in February. Despite playing against much older sides, our boys performed very well and three students were selected to represent Tanzania in their respective age groups.
A team of 36 students from Years 6 11 travelled to Morogoro to take part in a swimming gala and football tournament with two other international schools. Students competed in U12, U14 and U16 events and it was excellent to see some great performances from our students and forge great links with other international schools in Tanzania.

Students form an official council body with representatives from each year group and can undertake to affect change in all sorts of areas of the school. They have been an extremely positive influence on the school and gain the opportunity to learn about formal discussion and organisation.
This provides an opportunity for students to get creative with beads. Students are taught a range of skills in beading and jewellery making and then enjoy practising themselves. New designs are always encouraged and the students will often use what they make to sell and raise money for charity.

Each year the students are given the opportunity to perform in a production enabling them to demonstrate their skills and talents in drama and singing. The productions are of an exceptionally high standard and are attended and enjoyed by parents, students, teachers, and many people from the wider Mwanza community.
Students really enjoy music at Isamilo School. There is an active Stomp band (see below), a choir for students and staff, guitar club, a resident string quartet and students are actively involved in the music aspect of school productions.
The Isamilo STOMP band is a unique musical team who use all sorts of different every day items to create a rhythm. They rehearse weekly and regularly perform at school events.

Saturday School was born out of a desire to actively help disadvantaged youngsters from the wider community and to share the privileges enjoyed by students at Isamilo. It is run by teachers and pupils who volunteer their time for about two hours on a Saturday morning. They teach English and then run football, basketball, music and swimming sessions for about 150 disadvantaged children and young people. It takes place on the school site. The International Award for Young People is the international version of the
British Duke of Edinburgh's Award. Year 10 students complete the Bronze Award,
whilst year 11 students work towards the Silver Award.
All students must complete four sections of the Award:
1. Physical: students take part in a weekly sports activity either within the
school or the wider Mwanza community. Activities include swimming, football,
netball and running.
2. Skill: students learn a new skill or develop their ability in a skill they
already have. Our students are currently learning to cook and play musical instruments.
3. Volunteering: students must give up their time for the good of others. Students
are involved in the school-run Saturday School, a local baby home and other
community projects.
4. Expedition: students must complete a Practice, and then an Assessed expedition.
Each expedition lasts two days, during which time the students must be self-sufficient
and navigate their way around the local countryside.
Dedicated and determined students gain much from these awards, including an
appreciation of the local environment, team work skills and new talents!
