Pupil Support - Links with Parents

Parents and carers at home are key to a child’s learning – they are a child’s first teachers.  For a child to achieve their potential it is essential that school works in partnership with home.  In the Early Years Department we recognise and value the role which parents and other adults play and encourage parents to be actively involved in their children’s school lives.

Parents are welcome to visit their child’s class before or after school any day and are most welcome to arrange an appointment with their child’s class teacher should they have any concerns or matters they wish to discuss.  There is always someone who can help if English is not the first language.  In addition, during the first and second terms parents have the opportunity to discuss their child’s progress with the class teacher during Teacher Consultations.  At the end of the third term a written report on each child’s progress throughout the year is sent home.

Additional support is given to those children for whom English is an additional language to ensure that they have the best possible start and are able to fully access the curriculum.  Additional support is also available for those children who are below the expected level in phonics.

When parents and schools work together during children’s early years, there is a very positive impact on children’s development and learning.  Parents are invited to join us in helping with some activities in class as well as during other activities throughout the year.

Swimming Lessons

Parents are invited to help out during weekly swimming lessons. Non-swimmers are most welcome.

Hands-on parent workshops

Hands-on workshops are held for parents to let them know how they can best support their child’s learning at home. We run workshops on reading and mathematics.

Sports Day and Swimming Gala

The annual Sport day and swimming gala are fun when members of the family are watching… even more fun when they are joining in!
