Pupil Support

6th form students are expected to work in a much more independent style than students lower down the school, however they do require significant support to cope with the pressures and lessons of the two year course. At Isamilo International we have a number of systems in place to ensure that students do have somewhere to turn.

First stop will be the Form Tutor who oversees day to day issues, receives and collates feedback from other teachers, monitors rewards and sanctions being given out and provide lessons in some of the basic skills needed at A-Level (such as time management or note-taking).

In addition, there is also a system of one-to-one teacher mentors. Students are expected to meet with their mentors at least once a month (though many meet every week or more) to update them, set goals and discuss any issues that may have arisen.

There are also a number of on line support contacts given and invited guests throughout the year who offer further student advice, entry guidance for university, personal development options etc.

Our Head of Pastoral care is also an excellent port of call for any personal issues or aspects of student life outside the academic.

Of course there is also the Head of 6th Form (who can advise on aspects of 6th Form life and study skills, as well as helping with planning for the future, after Isamilo) and the Senior Management team including the Headmaster.

Within the boarding houses, Houseparents and the Head of Boarding provide the link between school and home and can also work to ensure students are fully supported at all times.

During the Easter holidays additional academic sessions allow students to take advantage of guided revision in most subjects as they prepare for the final term and the pressures of the exams.

No student should ever be left feeling that they cannot cope or do not know where to turn. At Isamilo International we are very proud of the personal attention we are able to afford each of our students and the fact that good communication leads to positive relationships, which have always been a cornerstone of the education provided here.
