6th Form students have significant academic work commitments so their time is limited but education is not just about the academic side and we believe it is crucial that students get involved in a wide range of activities and have a chance to expand their horizons wherever possible. Of course, this is partly where the CAS aspect of the Isamilo curriculum comes in (see the 6th Form curriculum section for more details), but there are also a whole range of activities on offer outside of the required school hours.
Naturally, the 6th Form students are welcomed at all the extra-curricular clubs and are part of all our sports teams, but in addition we offer a number of clubs tailored specifically to our older students. These include MUN (The Model United Nations which offers students the chance to really get to grips with the way the UN works and to learn debating skills by representing an allocated country at an MUN summit held in Nairobi), the 6th Form play (this year we are putting on ‘The Woman in Black’ to the great excitement of students who have studied the novel in English) and International Award Silver level (the Tanzanian equivalent of Duke of Edinburgh in the UK). These are designed to stretch more mature students and offer them a greater breadth of experiences in their Key Stage 5 education in preparation for university.
In addition, 6th Form are encouraged to independently set up clubs for any areas of interest that they may have. For example, this year a large group of students are putting together a fashion show for charity, and some of our boys are running football and basketball teams for the Saturday school. These are initiatives that they have set up entirely themselves.
Extra-curricular clubs generally take place between 3.30 and 4.30pm after school, but there are also lunch time activities and Saturday morning options.
